Journal of Materials Research Communications

Article Processing Charges

JMRC is a fully open access journal: every article is free to read and download. To cover the costs of peer review, production, hosting and long-term preservation, the journal charges an article processing charge (APC) for each article that is accepted for publication.

What the APC covers

The APC is a single charge per article, regardless of its length or the number of figures. It covers the full publishing service:

  • editorial handling and double-anonymous peer review;
  • copyediting, typesetting and author proofs;
  • immediate online publication under the CC BY 4.0 licence;
  • distribution of article metadata to indexing and discovery services;
  • hosting and long-term preservation of the published article.

How and when to pay

The APC is requested only after a manuscript has been accepted. The editorial office then sends the corresponding author an invoice with the payment details, and the article is scheduled for publication once payment has been received. No charge applies if a manuscript is rejected or withdrawn before acceptance.

Waivers and discounts

JMRC does not offer waivers or discounts on the APC. Authors are encouraged to check whether their institution or research funder pays open access publication charges on their behalf.

Editorial independence

The APC has no influence on editorial decisions. Acceptance depends only on the scholarly merit of the work and the outcome of peer review; the decision is made before any payment is requested, and reviewers are never told about payment.

Changes to the APC

Any change to the APC will be announced on this page before it takes effect and will not apply to manuscripts that have already been submitted.

Beware of fraudulent requests

JMRC asks for payment only after acceptance, through an invoice sent by the journal's editorial office. The journal will never ask you to pay in advance, or through a third party, in return for acceptance or faster review. If you receive such a request that claims to come from the journal, please forward it to editor@jmrconline.com.
